Does a Home Far from the Station Mean Inconvenient? Not Necessarily in Chiba!
Hello!
This is Norika, your Tuesday blog contributor.
When looking for a home in Japan, many people focus on one important question:
“How many minutes is it from the station?”
Of course, if you commute by train every day, being close to a station can be very important.
However, after viewing many properties in Chiba, I’ve found that being farther from a station doesn’t always mean a home is inconvenient.
If driving is part of your daily lifestyle, looking a little farther away from the station can open up many more possibilities.
You may find homes with larger lots, spacious gardens, or parking for multiple cars.
In many parts of Chiba, it’s also common to drive to supermarkets, home centers, shopping areas, and other everyday destinations.
So, when choosing a home, consider more than just the distance to the station:
* Access to supermarkets and everyday shopping
* Parking space
* The width of the road in front of the property
* How easy it is to park and drive in and out
* Access to schools and hospitals
* How you will normally get around
A home that is a 20-minute walk from the station may have a supermarket only a few minutes away by car, plenty of parking, a peaceful neighborhood, and a large garden.
For some people, that could actually be more comfortable than living close to a station.
This is especially worth considering if you’re moving from a major city such as Tokyo to Chiba, or if you’re looking for a home in Japan from overseas.
Rather than searching for a home that is “convenient for everyone,” I think it’s more important to find a home that is convenient for your lifestyle.
When viewing a property, don’t just look at the house itself—try to imagine what your everyday life there would actually be like.

Sincerely,
Norika Sugimoto
